Federal deputies of the PL vacated, at dawn on Saturday (26), the Praça dos Três Powers, in Brasilia, after a decision by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Court (STF), which determined the immediate withdrawal of the protesters. The group, made up of Jair Bolsonaro’s allied parliamentarians, was camped in front of the STF in protest against court decisions.
The Order complied with a request from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) that authorized the Federal Police to act to ensure demobilization. The governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), went to the scene to negotiate the departure of the deputies, warning that, in case of resistance, the Military Police would be called. “We will try to take peacefully. If they do not leave, they will be arrested,” he told Estadão.
Deputies Hélio Lopes (PL-RJ) and Colonel Chrisostomo (PL-RO) were among the first to set up camp. The symbolic action included posters against the Supreme Court, a Boca Boca, helium -used Boca in protest to what he called censorship, and an open letter on social networks stating that Brazil “is no longer a democracy.” Despite the movement, the number of supporters on the site was small.
DF Secretary of Public Security, Sandro Avelar, warned of the risk of escalation in protests and cited the possibility of a new January 8. Therefore, he suggested that the deputies move to Praça das Bandeiras, in the Esplanade of Ministries, where demonstrations are more controlled. He also reported that the area around the Supreme Court would be surrounded by Gradis on Friday night.
The attempt according to the mediation of retired judge Sebastião Coelho, declared critic of the Supreme Court. It was he who brokered communication with Hélio Lopes, who remained silent throughout the conversation while reading an excerpt from the Bible. Coelho even said that the deputy “would only go out in force”, but, given the presence of the governor and the PF, the departure was made peacefully.
Behind the scenes, it was expected that other parliamentarians would arrive in Brasilia to reinforce the act. A video published by Deputy Zé Trovão (PL-SC) on social networks indicated that he would embark on the capital with the objective of pressing on the departure of Moraes from the STF. “I only get out of the front of the Supreme when Alexandre de Moraes is imperachmented [sic]”He said.

PL leader in the House, Gostenes Cavalcante (RJ), declared support for mobilization and said he would travel to Brasilia to ensure the “rights of parliamentarians”. Later, however, he mocked Moraes’s decision on the networks and said he was not in the federal capital.
War the Minister Alexandre de Moraes that he must be confusing the facts or freaking out.
