by Marcelo Moreira

The breaking of a water network pipe in the Parish of Ó, northern São Paulo, caused flooding in houses and buildings, banning of roads and left the region without water supply and electricity. The incident occurred around 5 am on Wednesday (2), on Chico de Paula Street, and caused a great inconvenience to the residents.

The strength of the water dragged mud of a nearby work, which invaded homes and hit a condominium located at Professor João Machado Street. The social area of the building was covered by the mud. With the impact, the wall of a school gave in and a house was banned by the Civil Defense, which determined its demolition. Chico de Paula Street was completely blocked, and cracks were recorded in other properties.

Sabesp teams arrived at the scene in the morning. In a statement, the company reported that the water supply was interrupted as a containment measure and that other teams were mobilized to execute piping repairs and support the affected properties. Water supply is expected to begin to be restored on Thursday night (3).

The City of São Paulo, through the Civil Defense and the region’s subprefecture, isolated the affected area and programmed an emergency cleaning action. Teams will use hydrojet to clear manholes and remove the mud from the roads. The Traffic Engineering Company (CET) diverted traffic in the immediate vicinity. Enel was also triggered due to the risk of power posts in the region.
