Oil, orange juice and airplanes are some of the 50% exempt products

by Marcelo Moreira

After Donald Trump announces 50% rates on exported products from Brazil to the United States, some of them will be exception. The start of taxation was postponed to August 6. About 700 items are exception.

Oil, orange juice, aviary products, fuels, certain types of metals and wood, and vehicles will not be taxed. This should positively impact Brazilian exports, given that these are some of the products that the United States most consume in Brazil.

However, coffee and mango did not escape the rate of 50%. One of the largest consumers of these products is Americans. In 2024, about 36,000 tons of fruit were exported, generating revenue of US $ 45.8 million. In relation to coffee, in 2024, 8 million bags were sent. Only in 2025, 3.3 million. As a result, the government will negotiate so that both are exempt from tariff.

The United States has high demand for these products due to their large industry and domestic consumption, especially in sectors such as food, energy and manufacturing. Brazil, being one of the largest producers and exporters, can offer these products at large volumes and at relatively low prices, due to favorable natural conditions, production scale and agricultural and industrial efficiency.

In the letter, Trump again mentions the Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes, claiming that there were abuses of power.

“He abused his judicial authority to reach political opponents, protect corrupt allies, and suppress dissent, often coordinating with other Brazilian authorities. The Minister of Moraes authorized police beats, arrests and bank accounts with political motivation. He also authorized the confiscation of passports, arrested individuals without postings on social networks, opened unregistered criminal investigations, including US citizens by your constitutionally protected discourse. ”
