The Brazilian Navy issued a hangover warning to the Rio de Janeiro coast, valid between 9am on Tuesday (29) and 9 pm on Thursday (31). According to the statement, there is a risk of waves between 2.5 and 3.5 meters high due to the passage of a cold front through the Southeast coast.
The warning also includes the forecast of strong winds, which reached 70 km/h on the morning of Monday (28) at Santos Dumont Airport. The Rio operations center classified the situation with high severity level. According to the Rio Alert system, there is a chance of moderate to strong gusts until Wednesday (30), with cloudy sky, isolated rain and temperatures between 13 ° C and 27 ° C.
As a precaution, the Municipal Civil Defense interdicted the Tim Maia bike path, on Niemeyer Avenue, in São Conrado. The road was closed on Monday night after the first intense wind records in the region. Sirens were fired in Vidigal to warn pedestrians and cyclists about the ban.
In addition, tree falls were recorded in different parts of the city. In Leblon, a tree blocked Professor Antônio Maria Teixeira Street for more than three hours. In Barra da Tijuca, Pedro Bolato Street was also obstructed after the fall of a tree, being released by the firefighters late in the night.
The Navy recommends that bathers, water sports practitioners and fishermen avoid the waterfront during the warning period. The Fire Department advises that, in case of emergency, the population contacts us by calling 193. The sea is expected to remain agitated and unstable time throughout the week.
