Supreme Court Minister Gilmar Mendes criticized the actions of the São Paulo Military Police (PM-SP), which resulted in the deaths of two young people in the south of São Paulo. In social networks, he stated that cases such as these highlight the urgent need for reflection on the theme of public safety in Brazil.
“The 1988 Federal Constitution does not admit punitive shortcuts! No suspicion, however serious, authorizes summary executions,” he reiterated. In the publication, the magistrate defended the use of body cameras “as an instrument of control, transparency and protection”.
In addition, Gilmar Mendes charged a renovation of the national policing system. “It is necessary to go beyond: adequate training, commitment of control bodies and respect for human rights. Public safety is made with intelligence and respect for legality,” he said.
