Argentina President Javier Milei receives on Monday (28), United States Internal Security Secretary Kristi Noem in another visit by the administration of President Donald Trump. The arrival of the American representative reinforces political alignment between Washington and Buenos Aires in the new geopolitical configuration of the continent.
It is expected that Noem landing in Argentina on Sunday (27) and meets with Malei at 11am (local time) on Monday, at Casa Rosada. The return of the entourage to the United States is scheduled for Tuesday (29).
In addition to the meeting with the Argentine president-whom he met in person in April, during a visit from Milei to Mar-a-Lago, Florida-Noem should also dialogue with Argentina’s safety minister, Patricia Bullrich.
Bullrich, in turn, had planned a trip to the United States later this year for an agenda with the US secretary, but had to cancel his commitments due to Pope Francis’ death, who mobilized the Vatican presidential entourage for the farewell ceremony.
Recognized for their firm postures in the area of public safety, especially in the control of borders and in the fight against illegal immigration, both Noem and Bullrich have consolidated themselves as influential voices within their respective governments.
The presence of the American secretary adds to a sequence of official visits promoted by strategic names of the Trump team to Argentina. In April, the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and the Southern Command Commander, Alvin Holsey, were in the country. Already in May, it was the turn of the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to reinforce bilateral ties.
The new meeting with Milei occurs days after the repercussion caused by Peter Lamela’s statements, suitable for the American Embassy in Buenos Aires. In US Senate Sabbath, Lamelas said that its main objectives as a diplomat will be to “support” the Government Malei in October legislative elections, combating corruption and containing the growing Chinese influence on Argentine provinces.
