Former President Michel Temer has publicly commented on the recent decisions made by the US government of Donald Trump, which imposed tariffs on Brazilian products and revoked the visas of ministers of the Supreme Court. In a critical tone, Temer classified the taxation as “unreasonable” and the withdrawal of visas as “inadmissible”.
In a video released on his social networks, the former president showed profound concern about the direction of relations between Brazil and the United States. According to him, this kind of attitude compromises not only international diplomacy, but also national sovereignty. Fear stated that it is necessary to rescue dialogue as a fundamental tool for overcoming crises, noting that “in turbulence, more than ever, we must seek understanding.”
The former president emphasized that these tensions should not be faced with “bravado, threats or aggression”, but with diplomacy, balance and mutual respect. Throughout the pronouncement, he stressed that delicate moments require common sense, political experience and institutional responsibility of all involved.
Temer concluded the pronouncement asking for the National Union to be preserved, that diplomacy prevails. For him, “we must act as a free and sovereign nation, always guided by international treaties and our constitution.”
