The program Last analysis of this Thursday (3) He approached the two political sides that today antagonize South America: Milei and Lula. Between the right and the left, liberalism and socialism, Mercosur also becomes the target of dispute. After management of the Argentine, finished with a tone of criticism of the economic bloc, the petista now assumes, defending the importance of the common market and guidelines that go beyond commercial agreements.
FGV professor Daniel Vargas remembers the origin of Mercosur to explain the current situation: “The original purpose was to create conditions of political stability, promoting commercial integration and the liberalization of the economy. But the effects were in the opposite sense: we ended up closing and bureaucratizing.”
In relation to the divergence between the two main countries of the continent, lawyer André Marsiglia says that in their respective policies Milei is privileging his own country, while Lula prefers to follow a global agenda. “And doubtful, because the partnerships he seeks to do are ideological, much more than anything,” he says. For the commentator, it should be noted that such a policy has made Argentina collect good results, both in the economic aspect and on the agenda of public safety.
Vargas emphasizes the comparison, stating that they are countries that have crossed different trajectories. But he agrees that, in fact, Argentina is in a good time: “Everything signals an environment of optimism that the country had not had for years, in contrast to Lula.”
Regarding the future of Mercosur, the FGV professor recalls that the integration will distance himself from the economic agenda and may approach the agenda of public safety, as already announced by the petista.
