The car, which takes inspiration from Blue Train of Bentley’s 1930 with some modern modifications, is the first designed by the new design director of the brand, Robin Page.
While the manufacturer’s cars are not exactly known for their subtlety, the rectangular grid on the front of the vehicle caught the eye, especially because electric cars do not need grid.
Even knowing this, Bentley decided to include her, and even called the “iconic” Exp 15. According to the brand, despite the transition from the car to an electric, the grid is important to the “historical architecture of the brand’s vehicle”.
“The grids used to be used just to take the air into the combustion engine in front of the car. But now, with the evolution of lighting technology, we have the opportunity to create a digital work of art. So the grid remains our iconic front,” Page argued.
The long hood, rear cabin and the sloping ceiling lines of the Exp 15 were also inspirations of the Blue Train. Inside, it has 1 by 2 seat arrangement, while double doors and part of the panoramic ceiling open up to make it easier.
“The seat can spin and you leave totally quiet, without having to get out of the car as it happens in some supercars,” he explained Darren DayBentley’s Head of Interior Design.
“You just go out with dignity and the photo to Instagram is perfect. If you observe the car we built for your majesty, the queen, it has always been designed around the opening of the door and the ‘arrival art’.”
As for technology, a mix between Bentley’s physical resources with fingerprints has been created, channeling features such as the existing rolling panel of Bentley, which turns from a divided panel when the touchscreen is not required.
The Exp 15 panel can be used for various information and entertainment features, but can also be turned off completely to show a wooden surface below the glass.
“We think people will get tired of the totally digital experience and will also yearn for physical mechanical elements. Combining both, you get the best of both worlds. It’s almost like using a beautiful watch on one wrist and a digital watch on the other,” Page said.
Bentley said it has conceived Exp 15 as having an “electric force train, four -wheel drive, long range and recharge speeds compatible with the convenience that customers expect from a Bentley”.
