President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called, on Wednesday (9), an emergency meeting with economic and political ministers, including Fernando Haddad (Fazenda) and Geraldo Alckmin (Development, Industry, Commerce and Services). The decision was made after US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of a 50% tariff on Brazilian products from August.
The letter sent by Trump to the Brazilian government contains direct criticism of the decisions of the Brazilian courts involving former President Jair Bolsonaro. The new tariff, according to the Republican, would be a political response to the recent actions of the Brazilian judiciary, considered by him an interference in the democratic process.
