President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defended on Saturday (5) the creation of international governance to regulate Artificial Intelligence (AI). During the opening of the Brics Business Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Lula stated that the advancement of technology cannot be restricted to large companies in the sector.
“The risks and side effects of artificial intelligence demand multilateral governance,” said the president.
The Forum brings together political and business leaders of the BRICS countries-Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa-and precedes the head of heads, which will be held on Sunday (6) and Monday (7).
Lula proposes a new development model
During the speech, Lula also argued that the block strengthens a model of sustainable development. He cited sustainable agriculture, green industry, bioeconomics and resilient infrastructure.
“We have numerous economic complementaries,” he said. “Brazil’s trade exchange with the BRICS was $ 210 billion last year, more than double the flow with the European Union.”
The president also highlighted the need to combat global protectionism and defended reforms in the international financial system.
“It is up to emerging nations to defend the multilateral trade regime and reform international financial architecture,” said Lula.
