Latvia has announced that it will send 42 Patria 6×6 armored vehicles to Ukraine as part of a government-approved military support package.
The armored vehicle was ordered early in the year, and the first vehicle will soon be shipped, according to Defense Minister Andris Spruds. Latvia’s support for the defense of Ukraine is equivalent to 0.25% of gross domestic product.
The Latvian Ministry of Defense ensures that the provision of vehicles will not undermine the operational capabilities of its military. In February, the Ukrainian ambassador inspected the first shipment production at Patria’s factory. Patria produces approximately 30 units a year, and meets demand in Latvia.
The Patria 6×6 is the latest armored personnel carrier developed by Patria of Finland. It features 6-wheel drive, powerful engine and independent suspension, allowing for rough roads and crossings, reaching a maximum speed of 100km/h on paved roads. It can accommodate 10 soldiers, has armor that can withstand landmines and small arms, and can also be equipped with heavy machine guns and grenade launchers.
