Despite being acquitted by a popular jury of the main charges of the trial that investigates him for leading a criminal network related to sex trafficking, American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs had his bail request denied by court on Wednesday.
“In the trial, the defense admitted the defendant’s violence in his personal relationships, saying that he happened to Cassie and ‘Jane’,” said Judge Arun Subramanian, responsible for the “Diddy” bail.
The magistrate understood that “for the purposes of the present, the defendant is incapable” of showing clear and convincing evidence a “lack of danger to anyone or the community.” While the judge pronounced the decision, the rapper and tycoon of the American music industry was still, with his hands on his lap.
Cassie Ventura’s lawyer, one of the claimants against the rapper, said Combs should remain detained while awaiting his sentence. “Mrs. Ventura believes that Mr. Combs probably pursues a danger to the victims who witnessed in this case, including herself, as well as to the community,” said the lawyer.
Guilty for transport for prostitution
Despite escaping a perpetual penalty, Diddy, 55, was found guilty of two shipping charges for prostitution. The cases are applicable to two victims who have maintained a love relationship with the businessman, Cassie Ventura and another woman who deposed under the pseudonym “Jane Roe.”
According to the American press, these two accusations may surrender, each, ten years in prison to Diddy. Anyway, the jury verdict is seen as milder than expected.
Remember the case against Diddy
In September last year, the American rapper faced his first federal accusations related to crimes of sexual trafficking, prostitution transport and conspiracy to commit victims extortion. The tycoon introduced himself as innocent.
At the time, prosecutors argued that Diddy led a criminal network to commit sexual crimes. In the complaints, the rapper is appointed as a criminal who “abused, threatened and coerced women” to participate in long sexual orgies under the influence of drugs, known as “freak-offs”. Then he intimidated them to shut up on the events.
Diddy claimed that all sexual acts were consensual with the victims. His main defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, maintained that his client was following a Swinger lifestyle, but did not commit any of the crimes he is accused by the United States Department of Justice.
In all, Diddy Combs faced five accusations: conspiracy for extortion (innocent); Cassie Ventura’s sex trafficking (informed); Cassie Ventura transport for prostitution under the Mann Law (guilty); Jane Roe’s sex trafficking; and “Jane Roe” transport for prostitution under the Mann Law (guilty).
