Justice complies with a complaint against Deputy Nikolas Ferreira

by Marcelo Moreira

The Electoral Court of Minas Gerais accepted this week a complaint from the Public Prosecution Service against Federal Deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL) for irregular propaganda in the municipal elections of 2024. Also targets of the action are state deputies Bruno Engler and delegate Sheila, as well as the president of the PL in Minas, Cláudia Araújo Romualdo. The process can lead to the revocation of the mandates and the ineligibility of the four for up to eight years.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the accused used social networks to publish false information against the then mayor of Belo Horizonte, Fuad Noman (PSD), who was trying to reelection. The contents implied that a book released by Noman exposed children to improper material. The publications, according to the investigation, were intended to favor Noman’s opponent Bruno Engler in the second round.

The complaint also points out that Nikolas Ferreira would have disobeyed a court order of October 2024, which required the withdrawal of the content of social networks. Failure can aggravate the situation of the parliamentarian.

On social networks, Nikolas defended himself by saying that he only criticized the municipal management. He also stated that right -wing parliamentarians have been persecuted in the country.

The case will now be reviewed by the Minas Gerais Regional Electoral Court. In case of conviction, those involved will be able to lose their positions and be prevented from competing in the next eight years.
