Italian police pursues German tourist who escaped with an old Roman artifact on electric scooter

The 24 -year -old tourist was chased and arrested by police officers on Wednesday night (21.) in the historic area via Veneto, near the US Embassy. He carried a marble foundation from an old pillar that weighed 30 kilos.

The stolen object was placed between the tourist’s feet while escaping on an electric scooter. The police officer stated that the young man took the object as a “souvenir”, but there is no information about he paid for the artifact.

According to the Italian authorities, the man has not been accused, but is being investigated for “reception of stolen cultural assets”. The tourist’s identity has not been published.

Recently, the authorities have expressed concern about the behavior of other visitors. A tourist was arrested for carving his initials in the Coliseum and for running a scooter in the ruins of Pompeii.
