Israel denies hunger in Gaza and announces improvements

by Marcelo Moreira

The Israeli government announced on Saturday (26) measures to improve the distribution of food in Gaza amid growing allegations that the local population has suffered from malnutrition.

In one communicationthe IDF (acronym for Israel’s defense forces) listed four changes.

The first of these is the resumption of supply through loads launched from airplanes. Israel promises to distribute seven crates with flour, sugar and canned food.

Secondly, IDF will designate a humanitarian zone to allow “the safe movement of the UN trains with food and medication deliveries”.

The third item is the realization of humanitarian breaks in military actions to facilitate the arrival of supplies to the population.

Finally, the Israeli government states that it has reconnected electricity in a water desalination plant in Gaza. As a result, drinking water supply should increase by 20,000 cubic meters per day.

NOTE DENA HUNGHT IN GAZA

The IDF statement also denies that the population of Gaza is suffering because of the lack of food: “IDF emphasizes that there is no hunger in Gaza; this is a false campaign promoted by Hamas.”

The text adds that UN is the one who has the attribution to feed the local population: “The responsibility for the distribution of food falls on the UN and international help organizations. Therefore, UN and international organizations are expected to improve the effectiveness of help distribution and ensure that help does not reach Hamas,” says the note.

IDF also adds that the fighting in Gaza will continue until all Israeli hostages are released and Hamas is defeated “both above and below the ground.”

This week, the United Nations Palestinian Refugee Assistance Agency said people in Gaza are “walking corpses” because of malnutrition. According to the agency, even the employees responsible for the distribution of food in Gaza are suffering from hunger.
