The Israeli Department of Defense has entered into an agreement worth $ 150 million with the US manufacturer AM General on the purchase of hundreds of HMMWV militar vehicles.

The agreement, which was formalized through Israel’s defense mission in the United States, also includes spare parts and technical support, with the first deliveries expected by the end of the year.

HMMWVs, which are widely used by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF)should be used for various purposes such as troop transport, evacuation of wounded, logistics, maintenance, communication and special assignments. The purchased version is designed with reduced armor ring to increase transport capacity – more than ten soldiers – and enable the treatment of more wounded and, if necessary, fire support.

In addition to this purchase, Israel also invests in the procurement of armored JLTV vehicles. Through the US program for foreign military sales, the country has already ordered 75 units and further strengthens the fleet through commercial agreements.

The goal is to strengthen the protection of ground forces, especially in operations in the Gaza Strip, where resistance to mines and handguns are crucial.
