Israel’s defense forces admitted that a “technical failure” would have caused the fall of a missile by mistake in a water distribution center in the central region of the Gaza Strip. At least 43 people died after the explosion, according to the Civil Defense of Palestinian territory.
In a statement, the Israeli army said that a technical error diverted the missile from its original destination – an Islamic jihad terrorist who was “tens of meters” from which civilians were hit.
The note from Israel’s forces still regretted what happened and said the incident is “under internal review.”
Doctor Marwan Abu Nasser, director of a hospital in the region, said the bodies of the victims and more than a dozen injured people were taken to the medical center, located 1 kilometer from the explosion site.
The attack happens amid denunciations of internal sources of Israel that Hamas has “sabotaged” the conversations of a possible ceasefire in the region.
“Hamas rejects Catari offer, creates difficulties, does not give in and combines negotiations with a psychological war designed to sabotage negotiations, present false representations to the population of Gaza and press Israeli public opinion,” the high official said in a statement on Saturday.
