According to US TV network CBS, Israel planned to murder Khamenei, but Trump banned the plan. Then the president said the US and Israel do not plan to kill Ayatollah, but that plans may change depending on how the conflict between countries unfolds. In an interview with ABC News in June, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that murdering Iran’s supreme leader “would end the conflict” between the two historical enemies. The event marks the ninth night of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, and the eve of the Ashura ceremony, a religious event celebrated to honor the death of Imam Hussein, grandson of the prophet Muhammad. The war so far Israel and Iran have been in respite since June 24, and despite threats on both sides, there have been no attacks between countries since. Earlier, the countries exchanged air strikes for 12 days, leaving 935 dead and 5,332 injured from the Iranian side and 28 dead and 3,238 injured from the Israeli side, according to authorities from both countries. The US also entered the war on June 21, launching an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Ali Khamenei claimed victory over Israel and USA and denied great damage, while Trump said the Iranian nuclear program was “obliterated.”
