US President Donald Trump poses with a Bible in front of the Episcopal St. John church in Washington Reuters/Tom Brenner employees of the United States government can now try to convince colleagues to adhere to their religion in the workplace. The authorization was given by the management of Donald Trump on Monday (28), in a new guideline that also allows the organization of prayer groups outside of office hours. ✅ Click here to follow the G1 international news channel on WhatsApp according to the director of the Personnel Management Office (OPM), Scott Kupor, federal workers are allowed to “persuade others about the truth of their religious beliefs” within offices. Bosses can also try to recruit subordinates for their religions – as long as the approach is not considered harassment. Federal public agencies cannot punish employees who refuse to talk about religion with other colleagues. The new guidance expands the space for religious manifestations in civil service. Here’s what is allowed to be allowed: religious objects in the workplace: servers can maintain religious items – such as Bibles, crucifixes, mezzuás, posters with religious messages, jewelry, or works of art – on their tables, personal belongings or their own spaces. Group religious expressions: Employees are allowed to gather, formal or informally, to express their faith, as long as they are outside working hours. Conversations between colleagues: Employees can talk about religion and even try to convince colleagues about their beliefs as long as there is no harassment. They can also invite others to participate in prayers or religious activities. Supervisors Right: Bosses and Supervisors have the same rights of religious expression as other servers. An employee’s refusal to participate in these conversations cannot be used as a justification for warnings or punishments. Religious manifestations before the public: servants can express their personal beliefs even in public places or in front of citizens, as long as this occurs on a personal basis. According to Kupu, employees will also be able to create prayer groups in the office as long as the meetings do not happen during office hours. In July, the OPM had already authorized servers to adjust schedules or work from home to fulfill religious obligations, such as prayers – a flexibility after previous demands of full return to face -to -face work. The text cites an executive order signed in February by Trump, which is supported by conservative religious groups. In the document, the president asked agencies to eliminate what he called “use of government as a weapon against Christians.” Since February, cabinet secretaries have also been instructed to identify federal actions considered hostile to the Christian faith. In November last year, the Ministers of the Federal Supreme Court considered the presence of religious symbols in government buildings, provided the objective is to manifest the cultural tradition of society. The case was analyzed by the Court because of an action of the Federal Public Prosecution Service against the exposure of religious symbols (crucifixes, images) in Federal Government buildings intended for public service in the state of São Paulo. At the time, the rapporteur of the case, Minister Cristiano Zanin, argued that the presence of religious symbols in public places does not affect constitutional principles. The position of the rapporteur was accompanied by ministers Flávio Dino, André Mendonça, Dias Toffoli, Gilmar Mendes, Alexandre de Moraes, Luiz Fux, Nunes Marques, Luís Roberto Barroso and Minister Carmen Lúcia. Minister Edson Fachin accompanied Zanin with caveats, punctuating “the recognition of diverse cultures and different forms of the way of being and being”.
