United States President Donald Trump told the British station BBC who is disappointed with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, but stressed that he has not yet “gave up” him when talking about efforts to reach an agreement on Ukraine.
“I’m disappointed with him, but I don’t give up on him. But I’m disappointed,” Trump said in a short 20-minute interview on Tuesday (15) after announcing plans to send weapons to Ukraine and warn the imposition of severe tariffs to Russia if a ceasefire agreement is not reached within 50 days.
When asked how he could get Putin to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, the US president replied: “We’re working on it, Gary [nome do entrevistador]”.
“We’ll have a great conversation. I will say, ‘That’s good, I think we’re close to getting (the deal),’ and then he’ll overthrow a building in Kiev,” Trump added about the attitude that the Russian dictator has been demonstrating.
Russia has intensified its attacks with drones and missiles against Ukrainian cities in recent weeks.
In addition, Trump changed the tone over NATO by saying that he no longer considers the obsolete military alliance, as he had previously opined, and believes in collective defense because it means that smaller countries can defend themselves from the largest.
In the interview, the US president was also asked about the attack on Butler, Pennsylvania, who completed a year on Monday (14).
To the BBC, Trump said he doesn’t like to think if he has changed after the incident. “I don’t like to think if it really changed me,” Trump said. Thinking about it, he added, “can change my life.”
