Brazilian tablemanist Hugo Calderano is out of the Las Vegas WTT, one of the most important tournaments of the season, after failing to get the entry in the United States. The carioca, who has Portuguese citizenship, followed the usual protocol using the Electronic Travel Authorization System (this), as citizens of the European Union are part of the US Visa Exemption Program.
However, authorization was not released in time. In seeking clarification with the US authorities, Calderano was informed that he could not use the exemption benefit for traveling Cuba in 2023 for a competition. The athlete still tried to get a regular emergency visa, but could not schedule the consular interview before the tournament began, which began today in Las Vegas. In a statement, he regretted being left out for reasons that, he said, flee his control.
Last week, the Cuba Women’s Volleyball Team also visited the US and could not compete in a competition in Puerto Rico, US territory.
