Former presidential candidate for the Democratic Party and former US secretary Hillary Clinton criticized President Donald Trump for the imposition of tariffs to Brazil in a publication in which he also attacked Brazilian former Mandanician Jair Bolsonaro.
On social networks, she accused the White House leader of using the Lula administration’s tariff to help “her corrupt friend,” referring to Bolsonaro.
“You [cidadão americano] It’s about to pay more for meat not only because Trump wants to protect their corrupt friend, but also because the Republicans in Congress decided to give her power over trade policy, ”Hillary wrote on Thursday (10) on social networks.
The president of the United States announced a 50% rate on Brazilian imports on Wednesday (9), citing a “unfair” business relationship with Brazil and what he called a “witch hunt” against Bolsonaro, which faces a judgment in the Supreme Court (STF) for attempted coup d’état after losing the 2022 elections to Lula.
This Friday (11), Trump stated that “it may be that at some point” choose to talk to the Brazilian government about the tariff imposed. “Maybe I talk to them at some point,” he replied when asked if he had spoken to Brasilia after the letter with the fare announcement he sent this week.
By justifying the commercial measure, the US president also cited violations of freedom of expression in Brazil against companies in the United States.
“Due to, in part, to Brazil’s insidious attacks on free elections and the fundamental rights of freedom of expression of Americans, as of August 1, 2025 we will charge a 50% rate on all Brazilian products in the United States, as well as all sectoral fares,” Trump said in the letter released on his social network, Truth Socialon Wednesday.
