Berlin, Germany – A helicopter used during a military training flight on Tuesday morning (29th) in a river near the city of Grimma in the state of Sachsen in eastern Germany. The information was confirmed by a spokesman for the local fire department.

According to the spokesman for the regional fire cube association, the helicopter disappeared between 10:00 and 10:30 local time (08: 00–08: 30 GMT), and the fate of the pilot – or the pilots – is still unknown.

The emergency services have found signs of extensive paraffin emissions at the scene of the accident. Around 50 crews are involved in the work to limit the fuel leak and prepare the rescue operation of the aircraft and any sacrifices.

It was stated that the helicopter was used in a training exercise by the military, although it was not part of Bundeswehr’s official fleet.

The investigations of the cause of the accident and the identity of the aircraft are still ongoing, while local authorities continue the environmental measures and searches in the river area.
