The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the City of Rio de Janeiro decreed official mourning of three days for the death of singer and businesswoman Preta Gil.
Mayor Eduardo Paes lamented the death of Preta and said he rarely met in his life “a person who brought such good vibrations and that spread joy and friendships where he arrived.” Paes also sent condolences to family, friends and fans, and especially Gilberto Gil, the singer’s father.
The governor of the state, Claudio Castro, in a publication on the X (former Twitter), said that Preta was “more than artist, was an example of strength and dignity.” He also wished the family forces.
“Brazil today loses one of the most striking women of our music and culture. Talented artist and symbol of representativeness in Brazilian culture, Preta Gil went far beyond music,” said Castro about the death of Preta Gil.
Now the family deals with bureaucratic procedures for body repatriation. There is still no information about the farewell ceremony.
