English newspaperThe TelegraphGermany’s grant of a surface-to-air missile system Patriot to Ukraine, reported by the report, has raised doubts among experts.
Reports say the donation came about a week after the US announced a new military support package. The operation may have been achieved by ensuring the rapid replenishment of the equipment provided by the US, which is allegedly a measure to encourage allies to provide stockpiling.
However, Ukraine’s portal siteMilitarnyiExperts interviewed have questioned the truth of the information, pointing out that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius publicly said, “The Patriot is not currently heading for Ukraine.” The minister clearly stated that the existing Patriot would not be provided unless the new German-owned system arrives, and said it is unlikely that it will be offered immediately. Nevertheless, Pistorius said Germany still wants to make it possible to provide up to five units, and the plan still requires coordination and international cooperation.
Meanwhile, according to past reports from German newspaper BILD, Germany had a policy of repurposing the US-made Patriot system, which was originally ordered for Switzerland, to Ukraine, but these delivery has remained postponed.
Currently, Germany has already provided three of its 12 units to Ukraine, with two being deployed in Poland, with only three being operational within its own country. It is expected that the first unit of the new system will arrive in Ukraine within the next six to eight months.
