The Antonov-24 is a two-engine topic plane and is used on short and medium-range flights within Russia to supply the gap left by the country’s foreign aviation companies after the imposition of western sanctions due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. For the Russian aviation industry, being well adapted to the severe weather conditions of Siberia, where AN-24 fell on Thursday, as they can operate at temperatures below zero and do not need paved tracks to land. Russian airline Angara Airlines, which operated the Antonov-24, which fell on Thursday, operates 10 AN-24 aircraft manufactured between 1972 and 1976, according to the Russianplanes aviation portal. The aircraft was heading from the city of Blagoveshchensk to the city of Tynda when it disappeared from the radars, according to the region’s governor, Vassily Orlov. Authorities announced the opening of an investigation into the fall. Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed about the crash of the plane and is being updated on the case, according to Kremlin. The number of passengers aboard the aircraft was not confirmed until the last update of this report, but it is estimated that there were between 40 and 50. According to Oslov, there were 43 people on the plane, including five children and six crew. The Russian Emergency Ministry released a number one estimated of 40. On the other hand, local press reports that 50 people were aboard the aircraft.
