According to a report in The New York Times, part of the group tried to form a human stream to stay together in the flood, while others climbed into trees waiting for rescue. Ten people died. One of the young girls, 14 -year -old Melanie Finley, died when she came loose from the rope of a helicopter. Already the body of one of the dead, John Bankston Jr., 17, was never found.
