Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) filed on Wednesday (23) a request for impeachment against Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF), on charges of abuse of authority and institutional censorship. The request was delivered to the presidency of the Senate and directly aims to decisions that restrict the public performance of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Moraes determined, in the inquiry that investigates alleged crimes against national sovereignty, that Bolsonaro cannot use social networks or grant interviews that are disclosed on digital platforms. In case of non -compliance, it can be arrested.
In the document, Flávio states that the measures represent prior censorship and violate fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution. According to him, Moraes has distorted the role of justice by “criminalizing interviews, reposting and indirect manifestations”, which would constitute a crime of responsibility, pursuant to Law 1.079/1950.
The senator asks the Senate to establish a special committee to evaluate the case. If the process advances, he defends the loss of office by the minister and the prohibition to exercise civil service for the next eight years.
The offensive occurs after opposition parliamentarians, such as Damares Alves (Republicans-DF) and Magno Malta (PL-ES), state that the priority will be precisely the removal of STF ministers. Both are part of the Bolsonarist base in Congress.
The request was directed to the Senate President, David Alcolumbre (Brazil-AP Union), who has already spoken out against such initiatives. For him, the impeachment of Supreme Ministers is not the solution and can generate institutional instability.
