The US Department of Justice announced a mega operation this week to contain the infiltration of the North Korea Kim Jong-un regime in the United States.
A man from New Jersey has so far been arrested and several hiding places and computers have been confiscated by the FBI, says a federal government statement.
According to the Justice Department, criminals have been recruited for remote technology work in American companies, while Pyongyang clandestinely finances their arms program through confidential data theft.
The folder mentioned some of the crimes committed by these infiltrates, which range from American military technology theft “controlled to export” to a high amount of money. In one case, $ 740,000 from a Georgia -based technology company were stolen.
In May last year, prosecutors indicated a woman in Arizona for compromising the identity of 60 US citizens, 300 American companies, including a large television network, a automaker and a “top” company of Silicon Valley.
Months later, the FBI arrested another man in Tennessee who would have helped North Koreans infiltrate American and British technology companies, passing through US citizens.
According to the authorities, these infiltrated criminals had access to numerous confidential information and sensitive to national security. One of the affected companies is headquartered in California and operates in the area of defense, with the development of equipment using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The Justice Department added that six citizens from China and two from Taiwan are being formally accused in the scheme, but are on the run.
