On alerting tsunami, Japan records huge waves on the coast of Hokkaido island several countries along the Pacific Ocean were hit by tsunami waves caused by the 8.8 magnitude earthquake on the coast of Russia. The tremor was felt on the morning of Wednesday (30), for local time (Tuesday night in Brazil). This was the strongest earthquake since what destroyed Fukushima, Japan, in 2011. The biggest impact was felt in the far east of Russia. Images show structures of Severo-Kurilsk port in the southern Kamtchatka Peninsula, being dragged by water. The tremor was so large that countries like Japan, the United States, Mexico and Chile issued alerts or waves warnings. The measures included mass evacuations, suspension of maritime activities and recommendations of non -approaching coastal areas. Japan’s weather agency downgraded Tsunami’s alerts for much of the archipelago. The north of the country, however, remains at the maximum notice level. Tsunami reached the coast of Hawaii with a range of 1.74 meters compared to the normal level of the sea. According to the Oahu Emergency Office, there were no reports of great damage. The northern region of California in the USA observed a tsunami with waves of up to 1.1 meters. There are also no reports of damage so far.
