Car runs over dozens of people in the US The driver accused of playing his car against a crowd in front of a weekend’s Los Angeles nightclub was accused on Tuesday (23) 37 crimes of attempted murder, according to prosecutors. Fernando Ramirez, 29, was also indicted for 37 accusations of aggression with a deadly weapon. If convicted, he can take several life -prison sentences. Ramirez is accused of having intentionally directed on the sidewalk while attendees left Vermont Hollywood after a reggae and hip-hop event early Saturday morning (19). The reason for the attack, which injured 37 people, is still unknown. It was not possible to find a Ramirez telephone number on online search, and the Public Defender’s Office said it has not yet been assigned to represent it. “When he drove that car over the sidewalk, he pointed to a real sea of pedestrians,” said Los Angeles County Attorney Nathan Hochman, announcing the accusations. The car only stopped after colliding with several strollers of food, which were trapped under the vehicle. According to police, the driver was then attacked by people who were at the scene. The injuries ranged from light to serious fractures and deep cuts, and some victims were briefly attached under the car. After fleeing the scene, Ramirez was found with a bullet injury in the lower back, but the authorities have not yet identified the shooter. Employees said on Tuesday that they are still looking for the gunshot. “We know that this bold act shook the community and, not for the grace of God, that could have been an incident with several deaths,” said Hochman. He added that eight people suffered “serious body injuries.” Among the injured, 23 were taken to hospitals, according to Ronnie Villanueva, interim chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Los Angeles police chief Jim McDonnell said, “It’s really a miracle that no one died that day.” Ramirez has criminal records that include a prosecution for aggression and gang involvement in 2014, a conviction for aggravated assault in 2019 for an attack on a black man in a supermarket Whole Foods in Laguna Beach, California, and an accusation for domestic violence in 2021, according to records. In the 2019 attack, he was also convicted of a civil rights misdemeanor, and the assault was considered a hate crime because he told police he hated black people. However, a California appeal court in 2021 considered that he made this statement after invoking the right to fifth amendment (to remain silent), and only the conviction for aggression was maintained. Ramirez was released after spending more than two years in jail and prison. “Ramirez has shown to be violent with both strangers and family members and clearly don’t care about the safety of others,” Orange County prosecutors said in a judicial petition related to the 2019 attack. A 2024 -drilled driving process and an accusation of domestic violence in 2022 were pending at the time of the nightclub in front of the nightclub.
