United States President Donald Trump receives the president of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to deal with the tariff war.
The United States had a deficit of nearly $ 5 billion with the Philippines last year, in a bilateral trade of goods of $ 23.5 billion. Using this deficit as a justification last week, Trump increased rates on Philippine imports from 17% to 20%.
Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has already met on Monday (21) with Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, and Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense of the United States. On Tuesday, President Filipino will meet Trump to try to trades commercial negotiations with the Republican. The US President has already closed trade agreements with two regional partners, Vietnam and Indonesia, as well as the United Kingdom. This is the first time a Southeast Asian leader has been received by the White House head in this second term.
