Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs was acquitted on Wednesday by a popular jury of the main charges he faced in an extensive judgment that was investigating him for leading a criminal network related to sex trafficking for over two decades.
Despite escaping a perpetual penalty, the 55 -year -old tycoon of the music industry was considered guilty on two prostitution transport charges. The cases are applicable to two victims who have maintained a love relationship with the businessman, Cassie Ventura and another who deposed under the generic pseudonym of “Jane Roe”.
According to US press, these two accusations may surrender, each, ten years in prison (some estimates speak up to 20 years). Anyway, the jury verdict is seen as milder than expected.
The verdict took a crowd of journalists by surprise that accompanied the case of one of the alternative rooms to the Court, prepared to meet the high public demand. Among the many people who attended the court – mostly in support of Diddy – and who were also in this room, there were reactions of emotion and celebration with the judges’ decision.
Following the dissemination of the verdict, which was read by the jury spokesman and confirmed by the other members, Diddy visited his main lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, making head gestures, already relieved of the tense climate that showed the day before, when it was announced that the jury had reached a partial decision. Diddy Combs repeatedly thanked the jury and also gestured to the family, celebrating the decision.
The defendant’s defense requested his release after the jury’s outcome, however Diddy Combs remains arrested in Brooklyn until she read the sentence, scheduled for the coming weeks. Already the prosecution opposed, claiming risk of escape and classifying it as “a threat” to society.
According to CNNJudge Arun Subramanian should decide “soon” if the tycoon will be released under bail while waiting for his sentence for the transportation charges for prostitution.
