Christian camp in Texas confirms 27 deaths

The Christian Summer Camp Mystic, located on the banks of the Guadalupe River, confirmed on Monday (7) the death of 27 campers and instructors after the floods that devastated the south-central Texas this weekend.

“Camp Mystic is mourning for the loss of 27 campers and monitors after catastrophic flood on the Guadalupe River,” the note says.

The strong storms caused the river flood, dragging huts and leaving dozens of people arrested or missing, among them, were the 27 victims of Mystic.

“Our hearts are broken along with those of the families who are supporting this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly […] We are deeply grateful for the demonstrations of support from the community, rescuers and employees at all levels, “the note added.

The camp also called for respect and privacy for affected families.

Authorities warned the population to take extreme precautions in the face of sudden floods in the region, which recorded unusual rainfall levels in recent days. Emergency teams continue to work in the area to evaluate damage and locate other missing.

On the night of last Sunday (6), Larry Leitha Jr., Sheriff of Kerr County, one of the most affected by the disaster, said that in his jurisdiction were located 68 deceased, of which 40 are adults and 28 children.

These deaths add up to 14 others in nearby counties: six in Travis, three in Burnet, two in Kendall, two in Williamson and one in Tom Green, CNN said.
