China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday (28) that the country is willing to work with Brazil amid the tariff war with the United States. At a press conference, Guo Jiakun reiterated the Chinese position and said “tariff wars have no winners.”
“Unilateralism does not serve anyone’s interests. China is willing to work with Brazil, other countries in ALC [América Latina e Caribe] and BRICS to defend the Multilateral WTO-centered trade system and safeguard international justice, ”added the ministry spokesman.
The statement took place as an entourage of eight Brazilian senators is in Washington, United States, to attend President Donald Trump’s tariff meetings, which will take effect on Friday (1).
The first meeting of parliamentarians will take place at the Brazilian embassy in the US. In addition to talking to the ambassador, the entourage will be held in the American Chamber of Commerce.
This Tuesday (29), the senators will meet with Democratic and Republican congressmen. The Brazilian government bets on the influence of these organ and politicians to convince Trump to negotiate 50% imposed tariffs on products in Brazil.
