Created in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India and China – and expanded with the entry of South Africa in 2010 – Brics now also has Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran. The expansion strengthens the group’s geopolitical weight, but accentuates its internal tensions.
