BMW is investing in technologies that automate the use of indicators in its vehicles, in order to resolve the reluctance of many drivers to report a change of direction.
On some models of the brand, such as the BMW IX and i5 launched in 2024, it is already possible to activate the indicator and even to surpass simply with the look, provided that the GPS and the autonomous driving mode are activated.
This technology is being improved with the arrival of the new BMW IX3, scheduled for the end of the year. The model inaugurates the “Heart of Joy” system, an electronic center that incorporates all car control functions, using artificial intelligence and promising almost instantaneous answers. Thus, the interaction between the driver and the vehicle becomes more fluid and intuitive.
The next step, according to BMW, is to make the indicator completely automatic. The system would be capable of analyzing the context, such as the usual driver’s route, traffic signs and GPS data, to activate the flashing light even before the driver decides to change direction.
This proposal represents an additional advance in the concept of assisted conduct with human-machine interaction.
