The farewell ceremony of black singer Gil is scheduled to take place in the coming days in Rio de Janeiro, as reported by Gilberto Gil’s advisory on social networks. The family stated that the artist’s desire was to be veiled at the municipal theater, although there is no official confirmation about the place and the date of the event.
In the statement, the advisory stressed: “As soon as we have information about the funeral, we will disclose here.” The note was completed thanking “the affection, respect and understanding of all”.
The shape of the burial has not yet been defined, whether it will be cremation or burial. The family is taking care of the procedures for the transfer of the body, which should arrive in Rio de Janeiro only from Wednesday (23), due to bureaucratic issues in the United States, where Preta Gil passed away.
The singer died on Sunday (20). Since 2023, she had been fighting cancer in the gut, which recurred in August 2024, presenting metastases in four regions of the body.
