President Javier Milei’s government of Argentina published on Thursday (31) in the Official Gazette a decree regulating the granting of citizenship for foreigners who make “relevant” investments in the country.
The standard establishes that foreigners may benefit regardless of the time of residence in Argentina, but does not mention minimum values to be invested: it will be up to the Ministry of Economy to define which investments will be considered relevant to justify the granting of citizenship.
Argentine press agencies, however, reported that the level to be considered relevant by Milei management may be from $ 500,000 (about $ 2.8 million).
According to the text of the decree, if the Investment Citizenship Program Agency consider that the investment meets regulatory requirements to be considered relevant, it will ask the Ministry of Justice’s Ministry of Financial Security, the Ministry of Justice and other federal agencies to evaluate whether the granting of citizenship to the applicant may be a risk to national security or national interests and issues opinions.
Upon receipt of these analyzes, the Investment Citizenship Program Agency will submit a detailed report to the National Migration Directorate, recommending the approval or rejection of the request, and it will be up to this Department to decide to grant citizenship or refusal within 30 business days.
