Arab countries support a statement against Hamas

Seventeen countries, the European Union and the Arab League endorsed a statement that was approved on Tuesday (29) at a UN conference in New York that discusses the two state resolution (Israel and Palestine) to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.

According to information from France-Presse agency, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt were among the countries that supported the statement, which condemns the attacks of Hamas to Israel in October 2023 and claims that the terrorist group delivered their weapons and leave the government in the Gaza Strip.

“In the context of the end of the war in Gaza, Hamas should end its dominion over Gaza and surrender its weapons to the Palestinian authority, with international engagement and support, in line with the purpose of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state,” says the statement.

Jean-Noel Barrot, French Foreign Minister (country that organized the conference, with Saudi Arabia), celebrated the adhesion of Arab countries to the document.

“For the first time, Arab countries and those of the Middle East condemn Hamas, condemn 7 October, ask Hamas to disarmament, ask their exclusion from Palestinian governance and clearly express their intention to normalize Israel relations in the future,” said the French chancellor.

The United States boycotted the conference in New York, claiming that any initiative for the constitution of two states in the region “is a slap in the face of the victims of October 7 and a reward for terrorism.”

“Our focus remains serious diplomacy: no staged conferences, designed to make the appearance of relevance,” the state department said in a statement.
