Airbus proposed to move the production line of multi -purpose helicopters H215M to Romania using the Industria Aeronautic Români (IAR) equipment in Brașov.

The offer depends on the acceleration of the Romanian government plan to restore its military fleet, which is currently consisting of the IAR-330 Puma helicopters used for more than 50 years. The company considers Romania a strategic partner and sees this initiative as an opportunity to strengthen the local industry and European defense as a whole.

During the meeting with the authorities and journalists, Airbus officials stressed that the country was planning to buy new helicopters only after 2030. However, the conflict in Ukraine accelerated these decisions. The original estimate of the Romanian government counted on the purchase of about 90 aircraft.

Airbus said it was ready to start the local production process and stressed that IAR infrastructure is already ready to start production.

In addition, Airbus recently signed a memorandum on cooperation with the Ukrainian state -owned company Škroboronprom. The agreement, concluded during the Paris Aviation Fair 2025, counts on the training of Ukrainian technicians in the maintenance and repairs of aircraft brands operated in Ukraine, which strengthens the involvement of the European manufacturer in the modernization of military aviation in the region.
