The Supreme Court of the United States authorized on Thursday (26) that the government of South Carolina remove state financing from Planned Parenthood, an organization present in several US states.
The Supreme Court’s decision opens jurisprudence for other US states to cut public resources to Planned Parenthood.
According to information from the Reuters agency, the Court ruled, by six votes to three, to annul a decision from a lower court that had prevented South Carolina from ending the participation of a local planned Parenthood affiliate in the state medical program, which offers health coverage for low -income Americans.
The lawsuit had been entered in 2018 by the organization’s affiliate and a drug beneficiary Julie Edwards, after South Carolina’s Republican government determined that Planned Parenthood’s participation in the state program was closed on the grounds that any abortion provider is not qualified to provide family planning services.
“[Esse processo] It concerns those who governs South Carolina – our elected leaders or activists from outside the state and non -elected judges. We are happy that the court has agreed, ”celebrated South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson.
Planned Parenthood’s national president Alexis McGill Johnson lamented the decision. “Today, the Supreme Court once again has been on the side of politicians who believe they know more than you, who want to prevent you from consulting your reliable health professional and making your own health decisions,” he criticized.
