United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that he saved Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollae Ali Khamenei, “a very ugly and ignominious death” during Israeli bombing over 12 days. In a message published on his social truth network, the US president also revealed hurt with statements from Ayatollah after the ceasefire, which led him to abandon a proposal for relief of sanctions against Tehran.
“His country was decimated, his three evil nuclear facilities were obliterated, and I knew exactly where he was sheltered. He would not allow Israel, or the US Armed Forces – the greatest and most powerful in the world – they took his life. I saved him from a very ugly and ignominious death, and he doesn’t have to say ‘thanks, President Trump!’
The publication was a direct response to Khamenei’s speech, which one day earlier had stated that Iran “slapped the face of America” by reacting militarily after Israeli attacks. Ayatollah also stated that the Islamic Republic had won the conflict, and that any new aggression would be punished with a “high price.”
The speech bothered Trump. “Why the so -called ‘Supreme Leader’, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, from Iran, a country devastated by war, would say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the war against Israel when he knows his statement is a lie?” Asked the president on the Truth Social network.
According to the US leader, the United States were ready to present a package of proposals to Iran to resume negotiations about the country’s nuclear program. The plan pointed to the end of sanctions, the release of frozen assets and even a credit line for the energy sector, as well as flexible oil sales. However, Khamenei’s answer led Trump to give up the plan.
“We were preparing measures that would have given Iran a real chance of quick and complete recovery. But with this statement of anger, hatred and revulsion, it will not be possible to go on this path,” said the US President.
United States representatives had considered a new round of conversations with Tehran, but in the face of the situation confirmed no intention to return the dialogue.
