Trump cuts federal funds to NGOs involved “in disorders”

by Marcelo Moreira

United States President Donald Trump ordered on Saturday (28) that his administration interrupt the transfer of federal resources to non -governmental organizations suspected of involvement in riots and violent protests – regardless of the approval of a proposal in Congress. The information is from the EFE news agency.

“The law ‘without a tax for disorders’, presented by Deputy Kevin Kiley, must be passed immediately. Meanwhile, I institute my government to suspend any payment to these radicalized groups, with or without the legislative sanction,” Trump said in the publication on the Truth Social network.

The president accused these organizations – which were not named directly – to use public funds to “incite riots, fire or destroy cities” and then request new transfers “to help with reconstruction.” “Enough of money!” Emphasized the Republican.

The proposal of Deputy Kevin Kiley, California representative, appears after the protests registered this June in Los Angeles against the Migratory Actions of ICE (US Immigration and Customs Service). According to EFE, the project aims to prevent NGOs that organize or support “illegal disorders” receive public resources or benefit from tax exemptions.

The text also proposes more severe penalties for those who assault federal agents or obstruct immigration operations, expanding detention time and providing for additional sanctions. Currently, the punishment for simple aggression to a federal agent is one year in prison, with no specific fine.

In the proposal, Kiley nominally cited the human rights coalition of immigrants of Los Angeles (Chirla). According to the congressman, after the disturbances in the city, it was revealed that the entity received $ 34 million in public funds, even being an organization that has openly defended the end of Ice. The parliamentarian also said that Chirla would have acted in protests by release in real time the location of migratory operations.

An NGO spokesman denied involvement in the protests. However, the organization is already under formal investigation by the Chamber of Representatives Judiciary Committee, which is currently controlled by a republican majority.

The findings aim to clarify whether federal federal funds released during the government of Democrat Joe Biden were used to feed illegal protests such as those recently occurred in Los Angeles.
