United States President Donald Trump charged on Wednesday that the corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been dragging on at the Jerusalem District Court since May 2020, is canceled or that the prime is forgiven.
“I was shocked to learn that the state of Israel, which has just lived one of its greatest moments in history and is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, continues his ridiculous witch hunt against his great prime minister of war times!” Trump wrote in the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran, interrupted by a ceasefire on Tuesday (24).
“We were literally struggling for the survival of Israel, and there is no one in the history of Israel who fought more hard or competence than Bibi Netanyahu,” the US president said.
“Despite all this, I just knew that Bibi was summoned to attend court on Monday [30] To continue this long process (he has been undergoing this ‘horrors show’ since May 2020-unpublished! This is the first time an acting Prime Minister has been judged) with political motivation, ”said Trump.
“Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be canceled immediately, or for a forgiveness to be granted to a great hero, he did so much by the state,” said the American representative.
The Israeli Prime Minister is a defendant in a corruption trial that has been dragging on since 2020, accused in three separate cases of tax fraud, bribe and breach of confidence.
One of them concerns luxurious gifts, such as cigars and champagne, which he allegedly received between 2007 and 2016 from Arnon Milchan, an Israeli businessman, in exchange for favors related to commercial interests and obtaining visas.
In another case, Netanyahu is accused of making a deal with Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper editor Arnon Mozes, who would cover favorable about the Premier and his family and negative about his political opponents, in exchange for influence to pass laws to impose restrictions on a rival newspaper.
In the third case, prosecutors claim that, between 2012 and 2017, businessman Shaul Eclovitch, in exchange for regulatory favors for the Bezeq Telecommunications group – of which he is a majority shareholder – allowed the Walla portal coverage to be inclined to the interests of Netanyahu and his family. The prime minister denies all accusations.
