Toyota has just introduced a new technological functionality in its most luxurious SUV, the Century: lateral glass with adjustable opacity, designed for rear passengers.
The system, called Digital curtainwas developed by the Japanese AGC company and works through a film inserted between two laminated glass panels. By activating an electric current, the glass can alternate three levels of transparency (transparent, semitransparent and opaque), offering greater privacy and blocking up to 99% of UV rays.
Although this technology has already been used since the 2000s in the panoramic luxury car roofs, such as Ferrari and Mercedes models, this is the first time that it was applied to goalkeeper’s glass.
In the Century SUV, the system is present only on the rear side windows, while the panoramic roof remains in traditional glass with electric curtain. The novelty is already available for the orders of the 2026 model in Japan.
Produced with rigorous quality controls and intended for a very demanding audience, the Century SUV costs about $ 182,000. In addition to technological innovations, Toyota provides for new versions of the model, including one with an minivan -style sliding door and a Gazoo Racing sports edition, already used by the president of the company, Akio Toyoda.
Originally reserved for the Japanese market, the SUV was also introduced in China and could soon arrive in other countries.
