Senator Romário (PL-RJ) said on Wednesday (25) that he will present a bill to families who do not have proven financial conditions, can receive assistance from the government to transfer the body of Brazilians who died abroad.
Romário quoted in a post on social networks the case of 26 -year -old Juliana Marins, who died in Indonesia, as an example of a situation that can be supported by the state.
“The pain of loss cannot be aggravated by the omission of the state. Juliana Marins died in a tragic accident in Indonesia. His family, who lives in Niterói, will have to bear the costs of the young woman’s transfer,” wrote the senator.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the government should not bear the costs of the young woman’s international transfer. “There is no legal basis or budget allocation for the state to pay for translations,” said the folder.
Decree No. 9.199/2017 states that consular assistance does not include payment of expenses such as burial and transfer of bodies of deceased Brazilians abroad or hospitalization expenses, except in specific medical cases and humanitarian care.
