by Marcelo Moreira

The State Department of Health will send representatives to Bahia to evaluate the health conditions of one of the patients who have lived with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) after receiving a transplanted body by the Rio de Janeiro State Transplant Center.

Last week, Health Secretary Claudia Mello met with the relatives of the Zero patient – the first person to be diagnosed with HIV in September last year, who did not have her identity revealed. The man who lives in Salvador was intubated in May and has a picture considered very serious. The information was confirmed by sources to BandNews FM.

The transplant was held in January 2024 and in the same year it had to be hospitalized for health complications. The family members of patients affected by HIV claim that no adequate support was offered by the State Department of Health and also by the Ministry of Health.

In a statement, the secretary stated that the visit to Bahia is part of the tasks of the multidisciplinary team created for the reception and permanent monitoring of affected patients. According to the portfolio, the commission formed by nurse, psychologist, pharmaceutical and social worker maintains frequent contact with the victims and their families.

Remember the case

On October 11 last year, BandNews FM exclusively revealed the health scandal. Two tests issued by PCS Lab Saleme laboratory, hired by the Rio de Janeiro government, gave false negative. Six transplanted people came to live with HIV.

On the same day, in addition to the opening of the investigations, Claudia Mello stated in an interview with BandNews FM that patients and relatives were already being visited. The then Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, said the federal government also supported. The departure of the representatives of the portfolio to Bahia this week will be the first time since the case was discovered.

Four employees and two members of the laboratory fulfill precautionary measures. The defendants were accused by the Public Prosecution Service for the crimes of criminal association, very serious bodily injury, ideological falsehood and a falsification of a private document. The judicial process is in secret of justice. The hearings and trial have already been held.
