A man named Patches Magic Beans seriously injured a worker after crashing his van into a construction machine. Police say the driver was under the influence of mushrooms.
Patches, 34, was “wandering” on a Minnesota highway on June 19 when the vehicle hit a curb before hitting a lift used by two workers.
Benjamin Kidd, 27, was one of the workers who was hit by the driver’s car, and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and is still in critical condition, local media outlet Northern News Now reports.
Another lift-user, 37-year-old Bradley Costieuk, told police he heard the sound of a Magic Beans van hitting a cone and saw the car head towards him.
Officers rushing to the scene said the driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs, reporting that his pupils were wide open, his words were entangled and he was likely hallucinating.
Police also found a silly silly mushroom in a Magic Beans van. The results of the poison test have not been made public yet.
The driver is charged with two counts of dangerous driving and injuries and a second-degree drug-related offence.
He is in custody at Lake County Detention Center, with bail set at $75,000 and his next trial is scheduled for August.
